Mandela Highway is being upgraded under the Major Infrastructure Development Programme.

The major road works across the corporate area should be completed by early next year.

According to the National Works Agency (NWA), while it will have some "tidying up and finishing work on basically all of the projects", the aim is to have significant portions of the work done by the first quarter of 2019.

Some of the major roadworks include the US$19-million Constant Spring Road Improvement Project, the US$64-million Mandela Highway Realignment and Reconstruction Project, the US$56-million Hagley Park Road Improvement Project, the US$24.9-million Ferris Cross to Mackfield Project, and the US$4.4 million Barbican Road Upgrade Project.

The NWA said that the Barbican Road Improvement Project is 97 per cent complete, Hagley Park Road is 64 per cent complete, Constant Spring Road is overall 43 per cent complete, the Mandela Highway - 88 per cent complete, and the Ferris Cross to Mackfield project in Westmoreland is 41 per cent complete.

The road infrastructure legacy projects fall under the Major Infrastructure Development Programme, which is being financed through a concessionary loan from the Government of the People's Republic of China.
