Top four spot on Young's mind

Hydel High School student Charokee Young is intent on challenging for a top four finish in the 800 metres at next week’s Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association/GraceKennnedy Boys & Girls' Athletic Championships at the National Stadium.
Young, a first-year Class One athlete, won the 800m at the G.C. Foster Classic a few weeks ago in a time of 2:10.08, ahead of  Holmwood Technical star Chrissani May (2:12.07 3) and Abigail Shaafe,  from Eastern Champions, St Mary High (2:20.12).
“Last year, I ran the 400m leg on the medley open, and this year I am hoping to participate in the 400 and 800m and 4x400m and just hoping to do my best,” she said.
"I want to go out there and get a personal best, as for the medals I am not sure, if it comes, it comes,” she continued.
Young is expecting to be under some pressure, in a field which will include 2016 silver and bronze medallist, the Holmwood Technical pair of Chrissani May and Brittney Campbell.  Britnie Dixon of Vere Technical won the event in a time of 2:14.29.          

“I am pretty proud of myself, I am not sure how faster I can go, we will have to see, but my training is hard and every time I compete I get more experience,” Young stated.
The Hydel student has season bests of 2:09 in the 800m and 54:00 in the 400m, noting she wants to advance to the 400, 800 and 4x400m finals.
“I just hope to get into the finals and get a personal best,” she concluded.
