Drewsland designer goes global
hat began as a simple passion has blossomed into an international fashion journey for Jamaican designer Lisa Trendy.
Raised in Drewsland, St Andrew, the self-made fashion entrepreneur has turned her love for style into a thriving brand, earning recognition both in Jamaica and overseas while proving that humble beginnings are no barrier to global success.
Her inspiration, she says, was rooted in childhood.
“My motivation for opening my clothing store stems from my personal journey. Growing up, my family faced financial challenges, and I didn’t have access to many clothes or shoes. Those experiences gave me a deep appreciation for the value of clothing — not just as a necessity, but as something that can build confidence and allow people to express themselves.”
Rather than allowing hardship to define her future, Lisa Trendy said she channelled those experiences into building the career she once only dreamed of.
“Opening my clothing store is the fulfillment of a dream that was inspired by my upbringing. It represents resilience, determination, and a commitment to providing quality fashion while helping others feel confident and empowered.”
She added: “My goal is not only to build a successful business but also to inspire others by showing that difficult beginnings do not have to limit what you can achieve through hard work, perseverance, and faith.”
That dream was on full display recently when Lisa Trendy transformed New Kingston into a glamorous fashion destination with a runway showcase at The Oasis on Oxford Road, St Andrew, recently.
The event, one of the brand’s biggest productions to date, celebrated a remarkable journey that began with a single sewing machine in Drewsland.
As the lights faded and the music filled the venue, models emerged in striking collections that blended Jamaican creativity with international sophistication. Embroidered linen suits, flowing gowns and sharply tailored contemporary pieces commanded attention, with every design reflecting the brand’s evolution from a grassroots venture to an internationally recognised label.
More than a fashion show, the evening was a celebration of perseverance, ambition and Jamaican excellence, sending a clear message that world-class fashion can emerge from the streets of Kingston and capture audiences far beyond the island’s shores.
