Prime Minister of the Federation of Saint Kitts & Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, has set social media abuzz after boldly calling for a national baby boom -- despite being the father of just one child.

In a candid post on his official Facebook account, the prime minister made it clear that the issue is headed straight to the highest decision-making table in the federation.

"I will be bringing to Cabinet a submission to address the important matter of increasing our birth rate," said a statement posted on the prime minister's verified Facebook page.

"This is about supporting families, securing our future, and investing in the next generation. I am included. #morebabies," added Drew, whose social media profile describes him as a "devoted husband and father".

Like many Caribbean nations, St Kitts and Nevis faces the realities of declining birth rates, an ageing population, and future pressure on the workforce and social security systems.

A father of a son, Drew is the chairman of the 15-member regional bloc, CARICOM, and has been prime minister since August 2022.
