Thomas, Barrett the big winners at National Championships and Fitness Expo

Leading local bodybuilding men and women were the toast of Saturday night's Supligen Jamaica Body Building And Fitness Association (JABBFA) National Championship and Fitness Expo held at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium, University of Technology, last Saturday night.

Big winners on the night were Romario Thomas, who was crowned men's physique overall champion, and Vivette Barrett, who copped the women's physique overall title.

Other popular winners were Lisanne Levy, winner of the women's bikini fitness overall, and the veteran Rupert Johnson, who captured the men's bodybuilding overall title. The women's body fitness overall title went to Deidre Lewis.

In women's bikini masters 49-year-old Nicola Marie won ahead of 53-year-old Pauline Stewart, and 56-year old Deborah Grant.

The men's bodybuilding masters division drew loud cheers from a packed audience. Many-time champion Rupert Johnson took top spot from Cecil Beacon, and Michael Clarke.

Despite the islandwide blackout, which lasted well over three hours, the event saw a capacity crowd inside the auditorium. The National Championships and Fitness Expo has been sponsored by Supligen for the last four years and featured more than 120 contestants.
